The aircraft landed in the Inner Mongolia desert on Tuesday after a challenging mission that lasted 53 days.
For the first time in history, the Chinese lunar probe Changye-6 delivered soil samples to Earth from the far side of the Moon. This was reported by the Xinhua agency.
This is one of the most difficult space exploration missions. The expedition lasted 53 days. It began on May 3, when a launch vehicle was launched to the Moon Changzheng-5 using a spacecraft Chanye-6.
From June 2 to June 3, the probe collected soil samples, and on June 4, it flew off the far side of the Moon and soon entered its planned lunar orbit. On June 25, the device reached the desert of Inner Mongolia.
According to Yang Wei, a researcher at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the mission Chanye-6 is an important milestone in the history of lunar exploration. This will contribute to a more complete understanding of the Moon’s evolution.
“New samples will inevitably lead to new discoveries. Fascination with the moon has been rooted in Chinese culture for centuries, evidenced by the mythological story of Chanye, a woman who traveled and lived on the moon. Now we look forward to of Chinese scientists making their own contributions to lunar science”, he added.
It was previously reported that the Chinese Chang’e-6 spacecraft landed on the far side of the Moon on Sunday, June 2.
