What is known about Andrei Gnatov, who will now lead the joint forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
From 2018 to 2021, he headed the 36th Marine Brigade. In 2022, he was deputy commander of the OK “South” troops, and was one of the leaders of the defense of Nikolaev and the liberation of the Kherson region.
In June 2022, he personally received the rank of brigadier general and chevron from the president.
Currently, he has been awarded three state awards: the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine” (2015), the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III degree (2020) and the Cross of Military Merit (July 2022).
He graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Tank Forces, after which he headed the headquarters of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade.
In the spring of 2023, Gnatov led the defense of Bakhmut, which at that time was in the area of responsibility of the OSV Khortitsa under the command of Alexander Syrsky.
Gnatov is an officer who formed the marine corps from those who refused to defect to the Russian side during the occupation of Crimea in 2014.
