The German Chancellor believes that the disappointing results of the survey, particularly in the east of the country, are related to the aid to Kyiv.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suggests that one of the reasons for his party’s falling popularity, especially in the east of the country, is support for Ukraine. The head of the German government stated this in an interview with the German television channel Tagesschau.
The announcement came amid disappointing results from European Parliament elections in the east of the country for his Social Democratic Party. However, he emphasized that there is now no alternative to Germany’s support for Ukraine in the war.
“It is true that many citizens do not agree with our support for Kyiv. They also do not agree with the sanctions that we have imposed against Russia instead of today,” said the chancellor.
Scholz recalled that it was Russia who committed the act of aggression against Ukraine and that this particular war was Russia’s attempt to change the map of the world. Therefore, the blame for the violation of the decades-old agreement on the non-violation of borders lies solely with Moscow.
