Bucharest took this decision due to the significant deterioration in the security situation in Ukraine due to Russian attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
Romania to supply Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine. This was announced by the Romanian Presidential Administration on Thursday, June 20.
It is indicated that the corresponding decision was made by the Supreme Defense Council of Romania.
“Given the significant deterioration of the security situation in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s continuous and widespread attacks on the civilian population and civilian infrastructure, especially energy, and the regional consequences of this situation, especially for security of Romania, in close coordination with the allies, the council members decided to transfer the system to Ukraine free of charge,” the message said.
It is stated that the donations will be made on the condition that Romania continues negotiations with its allies, especially the United States, to obtain a similar or equivalent air defense system.
Let’s recall that in the last two months the possibility of transferring the Patriot for the needs of Ukraine was discussed in Romania. It is mentioned that this system can also cover the territory of Romania.
By 2024, Romania has four M903 Patriot PAC-3 MSE systems at its disposal.
