It was noted that Putin plans to deepen trade and security ties with the DPRK. It landed in Pyongyang around 2:45 am after stopping in far eastern Russia.
As the Russian media wrote, the program of Putin’s visit to the DPRK is busy: the main part of it will take place on June 19 – negotiations are planned in various formats, including in an expanded format, as well as well as informal communication between leaders. The program of the visit also includes a gala concert in honor of Putin’s visit.
Putin was accompanied on the trip by a representative delegation: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Defense Andrei Belousov, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Transport Roman Starovoyt, and there will also be representatives of large companies, including the head of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov and the Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.
Reuters wrote that on the eve of the visit, Putin issued a presidential decree saying that Moscow is looking to sign a “comprehensive strategic partnership agreement” with North Korea. His foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said this would include security issues.
According to Ushakov, the agreement will not be directed against other countries, but “will outline prospects for further cooperation.”
North Korean state media also published articles praising Russia and supporting its military operations in Ukraine, calling them “a holy war for all Russian citizens.”
