About 80 Summit participants endorsed a joint communique, in which they agreed on concrete steps in the peace process and the participation of “all parties” in it.
The administration of President Joe Biden of the United States considers the Peace Summit held last weekend in Switzerland a success. John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications of the US National Security Council, announced this on Monday, June 17, in a press conference.
He recalled that US Vice President Kamala Harris and White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan took part in the Summit.
Kirby noted that the meeting brought together more than 100 delegations representing various countries and international organizations to discuss how important it is to achieve a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine, based on the basic principles of UN of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kirby recalled US President Joe Biden’s statements that “long-term peace for Ukraine must be ensured by its own ability to defend itself now, as well as deter aggression in the future.”
The White House spokesman assured that the United States will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine and support the Ukrainian people, “including through a new funding package to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.”
He added that the United States will continue to provide additional humanitarian assistance to people in Ukraine who have suffered the aggression, as well as to those who have become refugees and are forced to emigrate.
Let’s recall that on June 15-16, the historic international Peace Summit, organized by Ukraine, was held in Switzerland. Zelensky said that the Peace Summit could have practical steps towards peace.
According to the President, the next, second Peace Summit will take place in months, not years.
