Cutting aid to Ukraine could lead to Putin’s troops standing on the Polish border, Baerbock said.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock warned of dangerous consequences for Germany and NATO if aid to Ukraine, which is defending itself from Russian aggression, is cut. He said this in an interview with the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, published on Monday, June 17, DW reports.
“If we do not continue to help Ukraine, there will be a risk that Putin’s troops will stand on the Polish border. Then the war will quickly spread to the territory of the EU and NATO. It is difficult to calculate how much will have to pay if we have to defend our own freedom and independence, ultimately, it comes down to one thing: supporting Ukraine allows us to keep the war away from ourselves,” Burbock said.
He also warned of the threat of a new influx of refugees.
“If Ukraine is no longer able to defend itself – and these words are mainly to those refusing aid in Kyiv – then millions more people will be forced to flee, after all, who wants to voluntarily live under of conditions of torture and occupation ?” said the minister.
Burbock called on partners around the world to continue providing Ukraine with air defense systems.
It was previously reported that Germany has transferred a large package of military aid to Ukraine. It includes HIMARS rocket systems for the first time.
Let’s recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s proposals about starting “peace negotiations” in Ukraine are not serious, and that in fact “Putin is interested in the classic imperialist occupation of world.”
