NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted that the Alliance must show its nuclear arsenal to the world to send a direct message to its enemies. He added that consultations are being held between members of the Alliance on removing missiles from storage and bringing them to a state of combat readiness as a means of deterrence.

He warned that China in particular was investing heavily in modern weapons, including its nuclear arsenal, which he said would grow to 1,000 warheads by 2030.

This means that in the foreseeable future, NATO may face something it has never faced before: two nuclear-armed potential adversaries: China and Russia. Of course, this will have consequences,” the Secretary General said.

Jens said he would not go into operational detail about how many nuclear warheads should be operational and how many should be in storage, but noted that “we (NATO) must consult on these issues. That’s exactly what we do.”

The alliance chief warned that China in particular is investing heavily in modern weapons, including its nuclear arsenal, which he said will grow to 1,000 warheads by 2030.

Transparency helps send a clear message that we are a nuclear alliance. NATO’s goal, of course, is a world without nuclear weapons, but as long as nuclear weapons exist, we will remain a nuclear alliance, because a world in which Russia, China and North Korea have nuclear weapons, and NATO does not, is more dangerous,” Stoltenberg said. .
