Minister of Justice Denis Maluska announced this in a comment to WP. He said that according to his sneaks, at least 4 thousand convicted men would agree to become volunteers during the first stage of recruitment. For now, convicts will serve only in assault units, which are entirely composed of former prisoners.
The motivation of our prisoners is stronger than that of ordinary soldiers. Their dismissal is only part of the motive. They want to protect their country and want to scroll through the page… There is competition between military commanders to hire convicts [через брак робочої сили]- said the Kid.
WP writes that currently 2,750 people have been released from prison under the relevant mobilization law.
Some prisoners who joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already committed minor repeated crimes, such as theft, the minister said earlier. He noted that so far this has bypassed the media. However, the minister adds: we should expect that more noise will be made about a crime committed by a previously imprisoned person than one committed by an ordinary person liable for military service.
We now have military personnel who return for rotation, or are given leave, and they also commit crimes. This does not reach the media. This is also an important problem that should not be overlooked.
