The German Chancellor has rejected accusations that Germany has become the “new Hungary.”
Germany does not block the 14th package of EU sanctions against Russia. Its discussion continues. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this, Politico reported on Saturday, June 15.
“It is about how we can ensure that the German economy can carry out its activities and at the same time ensure that goods delivered somewhere in South America, in Asian countries or in Africa do not reach to Russia via a roundabout route, where they shouldn’t be,” the chancellor said.
According to Scholz, a new EU sanctions package is close to being agreed, because “this is a practical issue, not a matter of principle.”
At the same time, he responded to comparisons between Germany and Hungary, which traditionally pose obstacles to new EU sanctions packages.
“Yes, it’s a great phrase, but it’s absolutely nonsense we want to find a solution,” assured the chancellor.
Let’s remember that on June 13 it was reported that the new EU sanctions against Russia were actually approved, but then Germany vetoed them.
Later, the media reported what exactly Berlin was unhappy about in the 14th package of sanctions.
