The G7 countries emphasized that any use by Russia of chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons would have serious consequences.
The leaders of the Group of Seven at the summit in Italy warned Russia of the consequences in the event of the use of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear. This was discussed in the joint declaration of the G7 leaders, European Pravda reports.
Summit participants expressed deep concern over Russia’s “irresponsible nuclear rhetoric and actions, as well as reports of its increasing use of chemical agents against Ukrainian forces.”
“We reiterate that any use by Russia of chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons will have serious consequences,” the declaration said.
In addition, G7 leaders are concerned about “the vague and accelerated expansion of China’s nuclear arsenal,” as well as the development of North Korea’s and Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The document reaffirms the G7’s support for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), from which Russia withdrew last year.
“We call on Russia to continue to observe the moratorium on nuclear testing and return the ratification of the CTBT. We also call on North Korea not to conduct any further nuclear tests, and to sign and ratify the CTBT,” said the heads of state of the G7. in the declaration.
Let’s remember that the previous Russian dictator Vladimir Putin threatened “tragic consequences” for countries that dared to send their military to Ukraine.
The EU commented on Putin’s statements, noting that nuclear threats are completely unacceptable and inappropriate. And the United States recalled that they had already warned Russia about the consequences of using nuclear weapons.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is also reported to have said that Russian nuclear dictator Vladimir Putin’s threats should not be taken too seriously.
