The Ukrainian armed forces took advantage of the US permission to launch strikes with Western weapons on the border territories of the Russian Federation, after which the Russian offensive in the Kharkov region stopped. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said this in an interview with CBS on June 9.

He called Joe Biden’s agreement to strikes with American weapons on Russian territory “common sense.” It made no sense not to allow Ukrainians to fire across the border with guns and gun positions that were firing at Ukrainians, a US administration official said.
And I will point out one thing: the dynamics of the Russian operation near Kharkov has stopped. Now Kharkov remains under threat, but the Russians have failed to make significant progress on the ground in the area in recent days. And the United States will continue to support Ukraine in holding its front lines and repelling aggressive Russian forces.
The day before, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the Russian offensive in the Kharkov region had failed.
An important result is that the Russian army failed to implement their Kharkov operation. We are now holding them back as much as possible and destroying Russian units entering our land and terrorizing the Kharkov region. The direction is strengthened. And it will be even tougher,” he said.
As Joe Biden noted, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received the right to strike with American weapons only at targets near the border in response to Russian attacks.
“We do not authorize strikes 200 miles (about 320 kilometers) deep into Russia and we do not authorize strikes on Moscow, on the Kremlin,” the US President said in an interview with ABC News.
