Czech company RegioJet has taken all 13 Austrian-type sleeping cars it owns out of service after a train accident in which two Ukrainian citizens died. Radio Prague International reported this yesterday.
“The reason is the design defects that appeared in the accident in Pardubice and earlier in the accident in Austria, and which the company was not aware of until now,” the statement said.
RegioJet found that a similar type of ÖBB sleeping car from the same manufacturer was damaged in a similar way as a result of an accident in 2018 in Salzburg, Austria – “that is, by breaking the carriage frame between the first and a second compartment.”
A frame fracture caused the breakdown of the carriage in the accident in Pardubice and led to the death of people.
“In this regard, Regiojet has decided to withdraw all 13 carriages from service, although they are identical vehicles operated by other companies,” the carrier said.
We remind you that on the evening of June 5 in the Czech Republic, the passenger express train RegioJet 1021 collided with a freight train. The train has trailer cars at Chop.
As a result of the disaster, four people died, including two Ukrainian citizens, and another 27 passengers were injured.
