Police believe the attacker was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the attack.
A court in Denmark remanded the man who attacked Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen in Copenhagen yesterday into custody. The attacker turned out to be a 39-year-old Pole, the DR agency reported on Saturday, June 8.
It was indicated that the man was arrested for 12 days, although the prosecutor’s office requested 26 days in custody.
At the court hearing, the Pole, who has been living in Denmark since 2019, pleaded not guilty. Police believe he was on drugs or drunk at the time of the attack.
“According to the transcript read at the hearing, he was so passed out that he had to be helped out of the car,” the report said.
During police interrogation, the man said that he was surprised to see Matte Frederiksen on the street, adding that he was arguing with someone. In court, he argued that he had a match against Frederiksen as prime minister.
“I cannot accept that I had disagreements about the positions of the prime minister,” the man told the court.
At the same time, the judge ruled in his decision that the attacker knew very well who Frederiksen was, and therefore had a reasonable suspicion that he attacked a government official.
We remind you that on the night of June 7, an unknown person attacked Matte Frederiksen in Copenhagen. He was not seriously injured, but shocked. It was later learned that he was taken to the hospital. Frederiksen canceled several public events.
“The violence resulted in painful sensations, head and neck pain,” the prosecutor said during the trial.
