The focus of the Summit is Ukraine. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky plans to attend the meeting.
The NATO summit in Washington will discuss three main issues related to Ukraine. At the same time, the issue of the country’s membership in the Alliance will not be considered. The Washington Post writes about this on Friday, June 7, in connection with an interview with the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer.
According to him, during the Summit, its participants will first discuss the “mission” of bringing Ukraine closer to its membership in the Alliance. Namely: coordination of all forms of Ukrainian military training, coordination of military assistance to members of the North Atlantic Alliance, supply of military assistance through logistics hubs.
The second question about Ukraine at the NATO Summit is about the financing of military aid to Kyiv, especially the provision of reliable long-term support.
The third major issue concerning Ukraine is the creation of a new common analytical training center in Poland (Jates).
At the same time, the admiral noted that the issues of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance and possible accession schedules will not be discussed.
“Now nobody can predict how the war will end,” he said.
The North Atlantic Alliance and Ukraine plan to sign an agreement to expand cooperation in the field of defense technologies and exchange intelligence on Russia’s capabilities in the field of electronic warfare.
