Hungary is satisfied with its cooperation with Russia in the field of gas supplies and does not plan to stop buying from Moscow, Budapest said.
Hungary’s addiction to Russian energy resources is dangerous and unnecessary. It is also a sign of support for Putin’s war. This is what US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman said on Thursday, June 6, Reuters reports.
While Western European countries have made serious efforts to distance themselves from Russian gas, landlocked Hungary receives 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia under a 15-year agreement signed in 2021,” Pressman said.
In turn, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, who is in St. Petersburg at the economic forum, said that Hungary is satisfied with its cooperation with Russia in the field of gas supply and does not plan to stop buying gas from Moscow.
“It is impossible to ensure Hungary’s energy supply without Russian energy resources, and this has nothing to do with politics or ideology, but is rooted in the simple facts of physics,” said the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
About 46% of Hungarian citizens believe that the European Union should not support Ukraine in any way. At the same time, 32% of Hungarians would support EU aid through financial, economic and humanitarian means.
