Russia, despite huge losses in equipment and manpower, shows no real desire to end the war “on terms acceptable to the international community or Ukraine.”
The offensive of Russian troops in the north of the Kharkov region is not strategically dangerous at the moment. The Russians were able to capture only a small piece of territory along their border, suffering heavy losses in this area. This was mentioned by Deputy White House National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer on Thursday, June 6, Voice of America reports.
He emphasized that the seizure of these territories is not “strategically important from the point of view of the general course of the war in Ukraine.”
“Russia has managed to capture a narrow strip of territory largely along its border that we don’t consider – and I don’t think Ukraine considers – to be strategically important in terms of the overall trajectory of the war . They invested enormous resources in trying to get this territory, they paid a huge price for it,” the official added.
Feiner emphasized that it is more important that the Ukrainian Defense Forces stopped the advance of the Russian army “just a few kilometers from the Russian border.”
“Now it is very important to deliver the necessary military assistance from the West in front of air defense systems and ammunition,” he said.
The White House spokesman noted that Russia, despite huge losses in equipment and manpower, does not show a real desire to end the war “on terms that would be acceptable to the international community or Ukraine.”
“If you said two years ago that two and a half years into this conflict, Russia and Ukraine would still be fighting over almost the same territory that they fought over from 2014 to 2022, I think people would consider that a big failure. Russian Federation, because of Russia’s ambitions regarding this war,” the official said.
The security service thwarted a new Russian attempt to obtain up-to-date data on the defense of Kharkov.
We remind you that despite all attempts, the Russians failed to capture Volchansk and still continue there. Voloshin reported on June 1 that Volchansk was 70% under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
