The new aid package comes via the US President’s cutback authority, which removes systems and munitions from existing US stockpiles so they can quickly go to the front lines in Ukraine.
The United States of America will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package as part of defense support worth $225 million. This includes, in particular, ammunition for HIMARS and artillery shells. The Associated Press reported this on Thursday, June 6, citing its own sources.
It was noted that weapons from the new American package could be used by the Ukrainian Defense Forces to strike “threat targets inside Russia to protect the city of Kharkov from a strong Russian attack.”
According to an anonymous agency source, the assistance includes:
-
ammunition for the highly mobile artillery missile system HIMARS,
-
mortar systems,
-
a number of artillery shells, including 155 mm for howitzers,
-
missiles for the HAWK air defense system
-
Stun anti-aircraft missiles,
-
anti-tank system Javelin and AT-4,
-
armored vehicles,
-
patrol boats,
-
and a wide range of other items, including spare parts and equipment.
The new aid package became known at a time when US President Joe Biden, in his speech in Normandy (France) on the 80th anniversary of the Day, promised that the United States “will not give up” on protecting Ukraine from to the Russian invasion.
Let’s remember that on Saturday Zelensky discussed further support for Ukraine with the US delegation.
