The former leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the chancellor of this country is known for his commitment to Russia.
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder lost his trial to regain his office. Reuters wrote this on Thursday, June 6.
It is indicated that in 2022, the Bundestag will remove Schröder from his own office and staff, explaining the decision by saying that after his resignation he will not perform any duties in the government.
The decision came amid popular anger that Schröder refused to distance himself from Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, whom the former chancellor described as a personal friend.
In 2023, he tried to overturn the Bundestag’s decision through the courts, but failed. On Thursday, June 6, the spokesperson of the Berlin Higher Administrative Court said that he had finally lost his case for the return of his office.
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder filed a lawsuit against the Bundestag demanding the restoration of the former head of government’s privileges, which were partially revoked in May.
Earlier it became known that the Budget Committee of the Bundestag had deprived Schröder of certain special rights in connection with his support for the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The decision was made to close the former chancellor’s office, but Schröder retained the right to a pension and personal protection. According to media estimates, the cost of Schröder’s staff is about 400 thousand euros per year. Last year, his office had five employees, and the head of the office received more than 10 thousand euros per month.
Schroeder left the post of chairman of the board of directors of the state-owned company Rosneft. At the same time, he said that he will continue to talk to Putin.
