The Normandy landings, also known as D-Day, took place on June 6, 1944. This is one of the key events of the Second World War. Allied troops, including Great Britain, the USA, and Canada, landed on the coast of Normandy in France occupied by Nazi Germany.
This allowed them to launch a major offensive in Western Europe, which, along with other battles of World War II, led to the defeat of Nazism in May 1945.
