The trial against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will not take place until after the election.
The Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump and several co-defendants has been officially suspended. MSNBC reported it.
The stay order issued by the state appeals court on Wednesday comes after the court earlier this week set a tentative October hearing date for the appeal.
There was no trial in the case against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee before the election.
“If this happens, it will further complicate the case against him at the state level, where, unlike federal cases, he cannot fire or pardon himself,” the material said.
The reason for the suspension was an attempt to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fanny Willis from the case. She was accused of enlisting her relationship, Nathan Wade, as the lead prosecutor in the case.
Recall that on May 30, a jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts of criminal charges related to withholding information about extramarital affairs. The court set the date for sentencing for July 11.
This is the first criminal trial against Trump in the case of paying money to a porn actress for non-disclosure of information to influence the 2016 election.
The criminal case is one of four filed against Trump in the United States, but may be the only one to go to trial and result in a conviction before the 2024 presidential election.
