On average, outages last two to three times longer in the capital than in Ukraine. From June 24, the method of turning off the lights should change, and the unevenness of the shutdowns will be adjusted.

    .

Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, spoke about this on air at KIEV24.

In Kyiv, on average, the duration of outages is two to three times longer than in Ukraine. That methodology, approved by order of the Ministry of Energy, does not take into account the huge critical infrastructure located in Kyiv. It works for the whole country, but takes away the limits from the people of Kiev. And when in many regions there is a blackout for 2-3 hours, in Kyiv it can be 8-10 hours. This is not a normal situation.

According to Omelchenko’s forecast, the situation in Kyiv should improve at the end of June, when the government decree on changing the limits for the population comes into effect.

I initiated a change in methodology with our officials. A government decree was recently issued providing for the regulation of unevenness. This decree will come into force on June 24. Justice must be achieved, because discrimination against Kiev residents is very wrong.

On Tuesday, June 4, some areas of Kyiv were without power for 16 hours. Critical infrastructure facilities were also under threat of shutdown. Experts have already dubbed the difficult situation with electricity in the capital as the “Kyiv energy anomaly.”

On June 5, in Ukraine they predict a deficit in the energy system throughout the day. Electricity limits will be in effect from 00:00 to 24:00.

Thermal generation in Ukraine has been practically destroyed. Planned hourly outages will become longer starting next week.
