Riga aims to purchase critical precious military equipment for Ukraine’s armed forces, especially the air defense system.
Latvia will participate in the purchase of weapons for Ukraine through NATO mechanisms. The country’s prime minister Evik Silinnya confirmed Latvia’s participation in the corresponding alliance initiative. On Tuesday, August 12, reported by Liepajniekiem.LV.
According to the official, the state has continued to actively support Ukraine in the confrontation of Russian invasion. After a government meeting, held on August 12, Silinya said Latvia joined the Purl program aimed at centralized purchase of critical precious military equipment for the armed forces of Ukraine. In particular, we talk about air defense systems.
Latvia plans to introduce at least 2 million euros, though the final amount of financing will be determined later.
This initiative is consistent with the call of US President Donald Trump through NATO to strengthen Ukraine’s military support and provide it with modern means of defense.
Earlier it was reported that Latvia gave Ukraine a significant batch of armored vehicles and prepared new delivery.
Remember that from the beginning of the war until June 2025, Europe has allocated at least 35.1 billion euros of military assistance through defense purchases – 4.4 billion euros more than the United States.
