The German army plans to receive 200 thousand additional 155-mm artillery shells worth about 880 million euros.
The Bundeswehr intends to order 200 thousand more artillery shells from the arms manufacturer Rheinmetall than planned. Reuters reported this on Tuesday, June 4.
According to a letter from the German Ministry of Defense, the army plans to receive 200 thousand additional 155-mm artillery shells worth about 880 million euros as part of a framework agreement with a defense company.
Rheinmetall already has an agreement worth 1.2 billion euros for several hundred thousand shells, fuses and charges.
As the publication notes, the new ammunition is intended to replenish the warehouses of the army, as Germany also supplies weapons to Ukraine.
By placing the order, the German Ministry of Defense is also trying to ensure that Rheinmetall can install a new production line in the central German city of Unterluss.
Rheinmetall is one of the largest manufacturers of artillery and tank shells in the world. The plant began to increase production after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Rheinmetall’s market value has more than quadrupled since the start of the war in Ukraine.
We remind you that Rheinmetall recently received a large order for artillery ammunition from a NATO member country worth approximately 300 million euros.
