The provision of Western air defense systems and the removal of restrictions on Ukraine’s ability to strike military targets in the Russian Federation are critical to ensuring that Ukraine defends Kharkov from Russian attacks. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for War Research on June 2.
According to analysts, a dozen Western countries have partially or completely lifted restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons to strike military targets on the territory of the aggressor country.
However, ISW believes that the two Patriot batteries in the northern Kharkiv region, which President Volodymyr Zelensky previously requested, had limited effectiveness in protecting against Russian airstrikes without the ability to fire at enemy aircraft in Russian airspace.
Let us remind you that the United States of America allowed Ukraine to use the provided American weapons to strike the territory of the aggressor country, but these weapons can only be used in the border areas of the Kharkov region.
NATO subsequently welcomed permission for Ukraine to attack Russia with Western weapons and said Ukraine has the right to self-defense, and that includes striking targets inside Russia.
