Sociologists have found out how the beliefs of the former president influenced Americans’ desire to support him in the next election.
US residents are divided over the jury’s decision against former US President Donald Trump in a porn star bribery case. This is confirmed by the results of a survey by the sociological company YouGov.
Yes, 50% of Americans agree with the verdict, 30% disagree with it, and 19% are undecided.
Moreover, among those who approve of the court’s decision, 86% of Democrats and 15% of Republicans. Independents are almost twice as likely to call him guilty than innocent.
47% of Americans believe that the trial was fair (mostly Democrats), 37% – that it was not.
At the same time, few of those surveyed expected Trump to go to prison. 63% say it won’t happen, 20% believe the former president will end up behind bars.
Nearly 80% of Americans say the verdict has not affected their views on the upcoming election. 46% of those who did not support Trump did not change their position, 32% of his supporters continue to support the former president. Another 13% were unsure.
At the same time, some voters changed their minds. 5% say they once planned to vote for Trump, but now have no plans to do so. 3%, on the contrary, say that they have become more favorable to him, even if before they did not think to vote for him.
The snap poll was conducted hours after the verdict was announced on Thursday.
We remind you that on May 30, a jury found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts. They are all linked to monthly payments to Michael Cohen – a Trump aide – who brokered a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
