The number of people in a tour group cannot exceed 25 people, and guides are prohibited from using loudspeakers.
In Venice, on Saturday, June 1, new rules for tourists were implemented, according to which the use of loudspeakers is prohibited and the size of tourist groups is limited to 25 people, reports the BBC.
The measures have been taken to limit the impact of overtourism on the city, officials said.
Overtourism is considered one of the most pressing problems in Venice, which has a population of around 250,000 people. In 2019, the city was visited by more than 13 million tourists. Visitor numbers have declined, but are expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels in the coming years.
The historic quarter has about 49,000 tourist rental beds, more than the city’s residents can use, according to Ocio, a community association that tracks the city’s housing stock.
We remind you that this year Venice introduced a one-day fee for visitors to the city to control tourism.
