Ukraine has the right to self-defense, and this includes striking targets on Russian territory. This becomes even more urgent against the backdrop of the opening of a new front in the Kharkov region,” said Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
He emphasized that he is convinced of the defensive nature of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes on Russia:
“Ukraine must have the right to strike back in order to defend itself,” the Secretary General noted, separately emphasizing that for effective defense, Ukraine must use the latest NATO weapons.
Stoltenberg also recalled that more and more NATO member states are allowing Ukraine to use their weapons, but refused to go into detail regarding what conditions are imposed on the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
We expect that strikes against Russia will be carried out responsibly,” he explained.
On the night of June 1, Russia fired missiles and drones at several Ukrainian energy facilities in a major air attack targeting cities across the country.
The Ukrhydroenergo company reported on Saturday that energy facilities in five regions of Ukraine were damaged as a result of night missile strikes, and two hydroelectric power stations were also hit.
Saturday’s strike was Russia’s sixth attack on energy facilities in Ukraine since March, part of a broader campaign likely aimed at cutting off the country’s power and worsening the lives of civilians.
