Jana Chernokhová called on her European allies to contribute financially to the Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine.
Only four countries have fulfilled their financial obligations under the Czech initiative to buy ammunition for Ukraine. This is what Czech Defense Minister Jana Chernokhova said, Euractiv reports.
According to him, only Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands and Portugal sent money for the purchase of ammunition.
As is known, the initiative secured financial commitments from 18 countries, mainly EU and NATO members. The Czech Republic positions itself as an intermediary, negotiating donor commitment memorandums and procurement agreements and then coordinating the logistics of supplies.
“Funds are coming to us gradually; we cannot buy ammunition on credit. If some countries have signed the memorandum but the funds have not been sent, we cannot continue to buy. This is a kind of appeal to the governments that have already signed the memorandum to send money.” , – said Chernokhova, citing logistical and financial problems.
Let’s remember that in April it became known that the Czech Republic had found more than one million shells for Ukraine. We are mainly talking about 155 mm ammunition.
It was also reported that the Czech Republic collected more than 1.6 billion euros for the purchase of artillery shells for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
