The Norwegian Foreign Ministry noted that several other like-minded countries will also officially recognize the Palestinian state on the same day.
Norway officially recognized an independent Palestinian state on Tuesday, May 28, following the Oslo decision. DPA reported it.
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the official recognition of Palestine as a state will take effect on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
“Many other like-minded European countries will also officially recognize Palestine on the same day,” it said.
According to Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide, recognition from various European countries alone is not enough to ensure the maintenance of the Palestinian state.
As you know, on May 11, the UN General Assembly supported Palestine’s application for full membership in the organization and called on the UN Security Council to reconsider this issue.
Later, on May 22, Norway, Spain and Ireland recognized the Palestinian state. These countries join the 143 UN member states, out of 193 overall, that recognize the Palestinian state.
