Analysts believe that the Russian Federation may change its side of support in the country’s civil war.
Russia is expected to soon sign an agreement with Sudan’s armed forces to exchange weapons for its logistics hub at Port Sudan on the Red Sea. This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Yasser Al-Atta, announced on May 25 that a military delegation will soon leave the Russian Federation to conclude an agreement on the exchange of “important weapons and ammunition.”
The Russians say the Sudanese military has recaptured some areas of Khartoum using Iranian drones.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative of the Russian President for Africa and the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov met with SAF chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and several other Sudanese officials during a two-day visit to Sudan on April 28 and 29.
Russia may change its support for the civil war in Sudan to support the country’s armed forces and establish its naval base in the Red Sea, ISW said.
At the beginning of this year, information appeared in the media that the special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine were allegedly involved in the purge of Wagner mercenaries in Sudan.
It was earlier reported that mercenaries of the Russian private military company Wagner were involved in the bombing of the strategically important Shambat Bridge in Sudan. This was confirmed by a recording of an intercepted conversation between two militants.
