CERTIFICATES – More and more women are earning more than their partners…much to the latter’s delight. Eleven couples confided how, far from causing tension, this dynamic allowed them to find their balance and strengthen their bond.
Today, every fourth woman in France earns more than her partner. An indicator that is clearly growing. In the 1980s, only 10% were in this situation (INSEE, Employment Surveys, 1982-2014). Beyond the numbers, the real revolution is perhaps in the reaction of the spouses. Madame Figaro Conducted interviews with eleven heterosexual couples aged 32 to 46, in which the wife is the main source of income. It is the same reaction among men everywhere. “My wife makes more than me and that’s great.”
“Not being the financial backbone of the household takes a ton of stress out,” one even told us. “He’s a great role model for our kids,” said another. “We don’t measure a person’s value by salary, I’m not going to bring my relationship to a salary gap,” decided the third, before concluding. “My wife earns more, our purchasing power is higher, we have better standard of living, everything is good, QED”.
