In July, after an increase in electricity tariffs, the timing of power outages may increase significantly, especially in Kyiv.

This was stated by the director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, Vladimir Omelchenko.
This is due to the summer, when preventive maintenance of nuclear power plant reactors is accompanied by heat and increased consumption through air conditioners.
Therefore, the deficit in the system will increase and may be especially large in July. And the timing of outages could seriously increase,” says Omelchenko.
Residents of Kyiv will especially feel this, since the capital has a lot of critical infrastructure.
Today, the determination of limits does not take into account the presence of critical infrastructure, of which there is a lot in the capital and which sometimes works for the entire country. Because of this, power outages last week in Kyiv were greater than the national average.
Since March, Ukraine has experienced five massive Russian strikes on its energy sector. Because of this, the country lost 8 gigawatts of power, and technically can import a maximum of 2 gigawatts. Ukrainian energy workers continue to restore the generation and ask residents to save electricity as much as possible.
By the end of May, the Cabinet of Ministers will make a final decision on the size of new electricity tariffs for household consumers.
This issue is under consideration, today we are making final calculations, the decision will be made in the next week, that is, by the end of May,” said Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
According to him, the most likely scenario when setting new tariffs will be the use of a differentiated approach to consumers depending on the volume of electricity used.
We are considering a differentiated approach. I don’t think that one tariff will simply be changed to another – there will be differentiation depending on the volume of electricity consumption,” Galushchenko noted.
