This is evidenced by new photos published by Schemes.
Russian Sukhoi-type aircraft were on the territory of the Kushchevsk airfield in the Krasnodar region of Russia on the night of May 19, when Ukraine launched a drone strike against them. The Planet Labs satellite recorded the damage.
Ukrainian UAVs were able to damage at least two Russian fighters, Su-27 and Su-34, according to aviation expert Anatoly Khrapchinsky, who, at the request of Schemes and the Russian service Radio Liberty, analyzed satellite images.
We see a Su-34 with damaged or removed wings, and a Su-27 clearly damaged in another part of the airfield. The Su-30, which has hardly changed its position since May 11 and is located next to the damaged Su-27, could also be damaged, says Khrapchinsky.
The aviation expert added that the Kushchevsk airfield is the training base of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School, where Russia trained future pilots. However, Russia is now using this airfield for attacks on Ukrainian positions.
Satellite images also show that after the Ukrainian UAV strikes, most of the Russian fighters were removed from the airfield.
Citing a source in the Security Service, Ukrayinska Pravda reported that on the night of May 19, 2024, intelligence service drones attacked a number of targets in Russia, including the Kushchevsk military airfield. The SBU did not officially comment on this attack.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that 57 UAVs were shot down over the territory of the Krasnodar Territory that night.
