Le Pen said she was looking for a clean break with the German on the far right

The break between the French and German Far-rights marks the end of months of tension between the two parties.

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen said her party must make a “complete break” with Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party because it has become too toxic of an ally ahead of European elections. Le Pen said this on Wednesday, May 22, on Europe 1 radio, as quoted by Reuters.

In particular, he pointed out that the Deutsche Party, Germany’s second most popular party, lacked proper leadership and pandered to radical elements within.

“It is urgent to establish a sanitary border. AdN moves from provocation to provocation,” said Le Pen.

French and German are currently part of the same political group in the European Parliament – Identity and Democracy.

AdN is known to have discussed the deportation from Germany of people with an immigrant background. In addition, the party has been accused of providing cover for Russian and Chinese agents. AdN spokesman Maximilian Kra said that not all people who served in the SS were criminals.

Le Pen famously spent more than a decade trying to “detoxify” the image of the party founded by her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who was convicted of hate speech for denying the Holocaust.

Let’s remember that in January of this year, hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets of various cities after a report of a meeting attended by representatives of Alternative for Germany, where they discussed a “remigration” scheme – that is, the expulsion of immigrants from the country. After that, the party experienced its biggest weekly drop in popularity in almost two years.
