Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelenskyassured that he “firmly” believes that European Union finally assign candidate status Ukrainedecision to be made on Thursday.
“I firmly believe that in these responsible days Ukraine will receive the status of a candidate member European Union. We have been in this for a long time,” Zelensky said, noting that granting the status would be “a very important moment” in the country’s history.
In addition, during a video conference with Canadian students, he stated that the possible integration of Ukraine into the European Union (EU) is a great motivation for the society of this country and especially for its army.
“For our society and our army, this is a great motivation. An excellent motivating factor for the unity and victory of the Ukrainian people,” he said.
Upcoming meetings and conferences
Zelensky, who answered live questions from students from several Canadian universities, added that the next two days will be decisive for the candidacy Ukraine towards integration into European Union (EUROPE).
The intervention of the Ukrainian president takes place shortly before the start of Thursday at Brussels meeting of the heads of state and government of the EU, which should ratify the status Ukraine as a candidate country.
The Ukrainian leader, who, during an hour-long videoconference organized by the Munch School of the University of Toronto, allowed himself to joke with students at various times, said he was convinced that all EU countries would support his country’s candidacy.
“This is a turning point for us. Some of my team compare it to the transition from darkness to light,” he explained.
Zelensky also reiterated that Ukraine needs West more weapons, more financial aid and more sanctions against the Russian economy to repel the invasion Moscow.
Responds to comparisons to Harry Potter and Churchill
Despite the seriousness of the Ukrainian president’s speech, Zelenskiy couldn’t help laughing at a student’s question, who stressed that he was being compared to such different characters as Winston Churchill or Harry Potter, and asked who inspired him at the moment.
Harry Potter is better than Voldemort. We all know who Voldemort and Harry Potter are in this war, so we know how it will end,” Zelensky joked, drawing laughter from the audience, including Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Christia Freeland.
Zelensky answered the question that it is the Ukrainian people, from peasants to housewives, that inspire him to continue the fight.
