The German Ministry of Defense has asked its government for an additional 3.8 billion euros to provide aid to Ukraine this fiscal year. The German newspaper Bild wrote this on Saturday, May 18, citing its own sources.
Journalists point out that of the 7.1 billion euros allocated by the German government for military support to Ukraine this year, almost all of it has been distributed, leaving only 300 million euros for the purchase of new weapons or ammunition.
At the same time, according to the German Ministry of Defense, Ukraine needs urgent military assistance for effective defense against the Russian invaders.
The head of the German defense department, Boris Pistorius, met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz on May 15, and with Finance Minister Christian Lindner on May 16. The request for additional funds must be submitted to parliament for approval. – approval in June.
The German Ministry of Finance, as the newspaper notes, supports and is not against the allocation of additional money for Ukraine.
In addition, Bild sources reported that the Ministry of Defense has pledged a record amount of 15 billion euros in aid to Ukraine for 2025.
Germany, along with the United States, will transfer additional HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine.
