The Czech Republic is planning a pilot project to help Ukrainians return home

The project will last from June to November, and foreigners living in the Czech Republic because of the war in Ukraine can take part in it. It is emphasized that this does not apply to the military service of Ukrainians.

The Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs is starting a pilot project to facilitate the voluntary return of Ukrainians home. This was reported by the press service of the ministry.

It is reported that the project will last from June to November, and foreigners living in the Czech Republic because of the war in Ukraine can take part in it. It is emphasized that this does not apply to the military service of Ukrainians.

The program is designed for a maximum of 430 people. People who have been granted temporary protection and those who have already received international protection can apply.

“We want to offer help to those who, for example, for health reasons or family reasons, want to go home,” said Minister of Internal Affairs Vit Rakušan.

The minister explained that for 400 people a bus ticket will be bought from their place of residence in the Czech Republic to the nearest place of stay in Ukraine, and another 30 people with health problems will be given by individuals medical transport service.

A foreigner can apply for reimbursement of expenses related to returning to Ukraine only once, and if he changes his mind and wants to apply for residence within the next twelve months, he must pay half of the costs.

From the budget of the Ministry of the Interior, 5,595,000 Czech crowns (about 226 thousand euros) were allocated for the pilot project.

According to the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are approximately 310 thousand Ukrainians with temporary protection visas in the country. This is roughly equal to the number of the Ukrainian community living there before February 24, 2022.

It was previously reported that, according to surveys, the majority of Ukrainian refugees in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic (66%) are completely satisfied or more satisfied with their current living conditions in the new country. At best, half will go home.
