The cost of firing a beam from such a system is just 10 pence, making the new weapon “more cost effective”.
The UK is developing a new weapon for its army that uses radio waves to disable enemy electronics and destroy several drones at the same time. This was reported by the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense.
The system can be useful in detecting, tracking and countering a range of land, air and sea threats. It is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to one kilometer, and further developments aim to increase the range.
The system emits radio waves to disable or destroy critical electronic components of enemy vehicles, causing them to stop in their tracks or fall from the sky.
“At a cost of just 10 pence per shot, the system’s beam is a significantly more cost-effective alternative to traditional missile-based air defense systems, capable of instantly destroying dangerous groups of drones,” said department in a statement.
The high level of automation also means that the system can be operated by one person, allowing it to protect critical installations and bases, the British Ministry of Defense added.

We remind you that in March of this year, the UK allocated 200 million pounds sterling for the production of drones for Ukraine.
