Even after the start of the war, China remains the largest trading partner for the Russian Federation.
China is sending electronics and technology to Russia to produce weapons, particularly missiles and drones, giving the aggressor country an opportunity to continue its war against Ukraine. This was announced by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday, May 13, during the NATO Youth Summit.
“The main country that gives Russia the opportunity to launch its war of aggression against Ukraine in Europe is China. It is Russia’s largest trading partner. The Chinese provide critical components of weapons, electronics and modern technology. which allows Russia to develop missiles, drones and many other things, which are key to the war against Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.
He added that apart from China, North Korea and Iran are also strengthening the Kremlin’s aggression.
“So the idea that we can separate Asia from Europe no longer works. It is interconnected. NATO is addressing the challenges coming from China for our security,” added the NATO Secretary General.
The United States has previously discussed imposing sanctions against Chinese banks over the country’s support for Russia, but, according to Reuters, the White House has no such plans yet. Washington has held off on punishing China’s big banks, which analysts consider a “nuclear” option, because of the impact it could have on the global economy and US-China relations.
