On the occasion of Easter, Pope Francis called on Ukraine and Russia to exchange all prisoners.
During Sunday prayers with pilgrims on Sunday, May 12 at the Vatican, Pope Francis said he is ready to facilitate the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia. This was reported by Vatican News.
“At the time when we celebrate the Ascension of the Risen Lord, who gives us freedom and wants us to be free, I again appeal for a general exchange of all prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, ensuring the readiness of the Holy See to facilitate any effort in this direction, especially in relation to the seriously wounded and sick,” Pope Francis said in his homily.
The Holy Pope also said that he continues to pray for peace.
Let us remind you that the Pope has recently made repeated statements about the war in Ukraine. In March, Francis said Ukraine “must have the courage to raise the white flag.” His words caused great resonance both in our country and around the world.
Later, the press service of the Holy See explained that the Pope did not mean surrender, but a return to negotiations.
And the Kremlin said it was “sympathetic” to Francis’ remarks.
