Vice Chancellor of Switzerland dies in the mountains

Andre Simonazzi suddenly lost consciousness and died while hiking in the mountains, the government said.

In Switzerland, Vice Chancellor Andre Simonazzi died while hiking in the mountains. He is 55 years old, the Swiss government said yesterday.

“He loved vacationing in the mountains. On Friday, he collapsed and died on one of his favorite hikes. Andre Simonazzi was 55 years old. He is survived by his wife and three grown children,” the statement said.

Simonazzi was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Speaker of the Swiss Federal Council in November 2008. He participated in government meetings, took minutes and handled communications. In particular, he headed several departments and the President’s Service.

It is indicated that the information quality activities of the Federal Council are the merit of Andre Simonazzi.

“Under his leadership, communication was professionalized and digitized. He aggressively strengthened its coordination and made it an integral part of government activities,” it said.
