Covert operations by Iranian authorities in Western countries have become increasingly aggressive recently, intelligence officials say.
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) states that Iran continues to engage in malicious activities in Canada and is expected to target its enemies even if they live abroad by 2024 to support its own regime. This was stated on Friday, May 10, in the CSIS annual report.
“Iran aims to become a powerful state in the Middle East, expanding its influence in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon,” CSIS wrote.
The report notes that opposition from the United States, Israel and other states to Iran’s ambitions has led Tehran to seek informal alliances with anti-Western states such as the Russian Federation. As a result, Iran has formed what it calls the “axis of resistance.”
It is emphasized that Iran and its intelligence services are secretly collecting information about Iranians living abroad and opposing the Iranian regime, and also trying to strengthen anti-Israeli sentiment in the West.
Let’s remember that last fall, the Republican leader in the US Senate, Mitch McConnell, said that China, Russia and Iran are a new “axis of evil” that “the United States must cope with.”
