The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) plans to conduct an offensive operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on the border with Egypt.
Israel is ready to fight alone in the Gaza Strip, even without military assistance from the United States. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this on Thursday, May 9, Bloomberg reports.
At the same time, the head of the Israeli government noted that problems with the supply of weapons from Western allies are forcing Tel Aviv and the IDF to “act alone.”
“If we have to stand alone, we will stand alone and fight to the end,” he said.
However, Netanyahu said the delay in the arms shipment was a mistake and expressed hope that the two publicly feuding leaders would find a way to improve relations.
“I have known Joe Biden for many years, 40 years and more. We often agree, but we also have disagreements, and we have overcome them now,” said the Israeli prime minister.
He added that Tel Aviv will do everything to ensure that more than a million civilians leave Rafah before the Israeli army’s military operation.
Earlier, Joe Biden said that in the event of a full-scale offensive by the IDF in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, the United States would not provide weapons to the Israelis that could be used in such an operation.
The Pentagon has confirmed that the US has suspended the supply of ammunition to Israel.
