The death toll from severe flooding in Kenya has exceeded 200 people. This was reported by AFP in relation to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the African country.
It is reported that about 210 people have died in Kenya “due to severe weather conditions,” with 22 deaths in the last 24 hours.
More than 165 thousand people have been displaced from their homes due to flooding, and another 90 people are considered missing.
Meanwhile, Kenya and neighboring Tanzania, where flooding has killed at least 155 people, are bracing for Cyclone Hidaya, which will bring heavy rain, wind and waves to their coasts.
Tanzanian authorities warned on Friday that Hidaya had strengthened to “full cyclone status” at 03:00 local time. Wind speed increased to around 130 km/h.
Kenya’s Interior Ministry predicts the typhoon is likely to “bring strong winds and large ocean waves with heavy rainfall,” which is expected to begin on Sunday.
It will be recalled that on April 25 it was reported that almost half of Kenya was covered by a flash flood, which killed dozens of people.
And on April 29, a dam broke near a city in Kenya’s Rift Valley. 45 casualties were reported.
