Ukraine is negotiating the process of returning Ukrainian children to their homeland with the help of Qatar.
Russia must return deported children to Ukraine, regardless of their status. Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets noted this on Thursday, May 2, Ukrinform reports.
He mentioned that during his visit to Qatar, issues were discussed regarding the return of the so-called status children: orphans and those deprived of parental care.
“Legally, there is no difference between biological parents and official adoptive parents or guardians therefore, the Russian Federation is obliged to return children regardless of their status,” the Ombudsman said.
Lubinets emphasized that Ukraine is conducting negotiations and the process of returning Ukrainian children with the help of Qatar.
He also emphasized that in the situation with the return of Ukrainian children, we are talking not only about family reunification, but about committing an international crime.
“We are talking about committing an international crime… The Russians must be held accountable for this,” Lubinets said.
We remind you that the Ukrainian authorities have established the names of almost 20 thousand children abducted by Russia.
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ombudswoman Maria Lvovskaya-Belova for the deportation of Ukrainian children.
