The official reason for the cancellation of the concert was the proximity of the performance at the peace conference in Ukraine.
In Lucerne, Switzerland, the concert of Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko, scheduled for June 1, has been canceled. Swissinfo reported this on Wednesday, May 1.
Representatives of the KKL concert hall, where Netrebko’s concert will be held, said that opinions about the political position of the soloist remain controversial.
The official reason for the cancellation of the concert is the proximity of the performance at the peace conference in Ukraine, which is scheduled to take place in mid-June near Lucerne.
Local authorities asked the KKL to cancel the concert due to the increased risk to public order. Lucerne’s cantonal government has warned of possible unrest and protests in the city.
The Russian singer’s management said that in March 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Netrebko made several statements “in which he spoke against the war and called for peace in Ukraine… and he did not return to Russia .”
Since 2006, Netrebko has lived in Austria, holding both Russian and Austrian citizenship. In June and August he is scheduled to perform in Milan, Verona (Italy), Linz (Austria) and Madrid (Spain).
We remind you that the Peace Summit will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland. The Ukrainian side expects that 80-100 countries of the world will participate in this event. The Office of the President of Ukraine ruled out Russia’s participation in the first Peace Summit, but there is a possibility that its representatives will be at the second summit.
