Someone is trying to spoil Poles’ celebration of the 20th anniversary of Poland’s entry into the EU by setting fire to a Warsaw synagogue, the country’s foreign minister believes.
In Warsaw, unknown attackers tried to set fire to the city’s oldest Nozhik synagogue with Molotov cocktails. This was reported by Polish police and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, writes PAP.
Sikorski noted that by setting fire to the Warsaw synagogue, someone was trying to destroy the Poles’ celebration of the 20th anniversary of Poland’s entry into the EU.
“No one was hurt, God have mercy but someone is trying to disrupt the anniversary of our entry into the EU. Maybe these are the ones who painted the Stars of David in Paris?” – wrote Sikorsky.
The US Embassy in Poland also strongly condemned the attack on the Nozhik Synagogue in Warsaw.
“We express our solidarity with the members of the synagogue and all Jewish communities in Poland. We support all those fighting against anti-Semitism,” the US Embassy in Poland said in a statement.
Earlier it was reported that in the Cherkasy region a man burned railway equipment for money.
