Copenhagen is implementing the European Anti-Corruption Initiative, which essentially creates anti-corruption institutions.
Purchases made by Denmark for projects in Ukraine are carried out through international organizations. This was said by the Ambassador of Denmark in Kyiv Ole Egberg Mikkelsen in an interview with the newspaper RBC-Ukraine.
“This is actually the number one question I get when delegations come to me, because, on the one hand, there is strong support for Ukraine. On the other hand, there is concern, fear that there will be a lack of accountability, there will be corruption and many other things therefore, we are very conscious of reducing the risk of corruption in our support,” explained the diplomat.
The purchases that Denmark makes in Nikolaev are not carried out locally.
“There are no local purchases, everything is carried out through international organizations, especially the procurement agency of the UN system. And this is one of the ways to reduce the risk of corruption,” said Mikkelsen.
According to him, if there is any real evidence of corruption, “that would be the worst thing that could happen.”
“Therefore, we have a strong and common interest with our friends in Ukraine in ensuring that the fight against corruption continues, that everything is done to reduce the risk of corruption,” Mikkelsen emphasized.
Denmark is also implementing the European Anti-Corruption Initiative, which essentially creates anti-corruption institutions. There is also cooperation with some municipalities, they are called “cities of honesty”, one of them is Nikolaev, so they have to meet strict requirements to reduce the risk of corruption, the ambassador said.
Let’s recall that in April Denmark announced a new aid package to Ukraine. This is on top of more than $300 million earmarked for the development of Ukraine’s maritime potential, as well as for drones and the production of missile components.
We previously reported that Denmark will allocate $28.6 million to purchase weapons for Ukraine directly from Ukrainian manufacturers.
