Attempts to discredit the general “United News” marathon are part of the information war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.

Advisor to the head of the Presidential Office Sergei Leshchenko announced this during a telethon on April 29.
“The telethon was created to be a source of verifiable information, not fakes. It is clear that one of Russia’s methods of fighting against Ukraine is to discredit sources that provide verified information, information without hype. Actually, part of Russia’s information war against Ukraine is being waged by discrediting the marathon. Understanding that if there is no marathon, media chaos will arise, and in such conditions it is much easier to weaken society internally in the face of Russian aggression. You have to be aware of this,” Leshchenko said.
He emphasized that, in his opinion, calls to stop the work of United News are “completely in tune with Russian propaganda” and pursue the same goal as hostile propaganda – the destruction of Ukraine.
Here is a question for the intelligence services: why are Ukrainian politicians repeating this stuff? “Are they part of Russian propaganda or are they useful idiots—people whose opponents are used for their own purposes?” Leshchenko said.
The former journalist also drew attention to the fact that Russians are now spreading narratives that “it is necessary to deprive Zelensky of the authorities in mid-May and carry out a putsch.”
Unfortunately, some Ukrainian home-grown figures like to pick up this narrative, repeating Russian propaganda. This is another reason to think about information security within the country, Leshchenko believes.
Earlier, the US State Department released a report on human rights observance in Ukraine in 2023, which noted that the creation of a joint telethon “United News”, the production of which was not allowed by a number of channels “affiliated with opposition parties” (Channel 5, Direct, Espresso) )), gives authorities “an unprecedented level of control over primetime television news.”
